Dr. Pavlos Protopapas is the Scientific Program Director, Institute for Applied Computational Science (IACS) at Harvard University, and leads the Data Science Masters program at Harvard. Pavlos has had a long and distinguished career as a scientist and data science educator, and today teaches the CS109 series for basic and advanced data science, as well as the capstone course (industry-sponsored data science projects) for the IACS masters program at Harvard. Pavlos is a founding Faculty partner of Univ.AI. Pavlos has a Ph.D in theoretical physics from the University of Pennsylvania but has since branched into doing research in, astronomy, especially in the use of machine learning and AI in astronomy, and computer science. He was Deputy Director of the National Expandable Clusters Program (NSCP) at the University of Pennsylvania, and was instrumental in creating the Initiative in Innovative Computing (IIC) at Harvard. Pavlos has taught multiple courses on Machine Learning and computational science at Harvard, summer schools, and programs in Chile, China, Colombia, and Italy. He is excited to be a partner faculty of Univ.AI, helping steer us to world-class excellence in AI Research and education.
