What are you doing right now?
I am a third-year CSE student at KLE Technological University, Hubballi (Karnataka, India) and would be graduating in June 2022.
Area of interest
Natural language processing and image processing are the areas of my interest.
Why did you first sign up with Univ.AI?
As a student of Computer Science, I was curious to know how AI is influencing the quality of life. When I came across an advertisement for Univ.AI providing the knowledge about AI & ML, I thought this was the best way of using my summer vacation post the first year of engineering.
What role has Univ.AI played in your learning journey in Data Science and AI?
I realized for a career in AI, I was required to know more about the field.Univ.AI provided me with the opportunity to learn from Harvard and UCLA professors in these domains. I was able to network with my peers, seniors, and professional experts in the field beyond the boundaries of my institution.
If you had to share just one thing that you learned in the course, what would it be?
One thing that I learned from this course is that it is okay to start with no knowledge about a subject, as long as you are willing to work hard and accomplish what is required in the end. I began with a clean slate on my first day but at the end of the summer school, I was even able to understand minute details of machine learning algorithms.
What surprised you about the course?
The sessions were quite informative and interactive. We were taught foundations of regression, generative models, deep learning, and neural networks. Two projects, which ran in the form of hackathons, helped me understand problem-solving within teams.
Though I had little preparation to undergo this training, I came back well prepared. All that I learned during the training started coming together during my second year of engineering and now, I am better prepared to make well-informed decisions.
Have you seen new opportunities as a result of the course? Do you feel better equipped for new opportunities?
Yes! Post summer school, I started my second year of engineering and was selected for institute level project on machine learning based on the foundations like Linear Algebra, Applied Statistics.
What advice would you give to a new Univ.AI student?
My suggestion to a new Univ.AI student would be to come with an open mind when they enter the class. They should get all their doubts cleared even if they might seem very stupid or irrelevant at that very point in time because small nuances compound at the end. Also, keep interacting with the instructors and professors because they, with their unique perspective, come with different ways of approaching a problem which opens up a whole new spectrum of possibilities.
Any final thoughts or recommendations about the course?
It was a wonderful experience. It helped me take one more step towards my career in Artificial Intelligence and I plan to follow the Foundations course with a Masters course to propel myself in the field of AI.
